Under the direction of the Program Manager for the Nursing and Health Sciences division, the Pre-Nursing Instructor will prepare and deliver classroom instruction in the Pre-Nursing Sciences program and other courses in the Nursing and Health Sciences programs of Nunavut Arctic College. The Pre-Nursing Sciences Instructor delivers lessons using a variety of instructional strategies and will develop and administer materials for student evaluation and assessment. The Pre-health Sciences Instructor will search, review and recommend resource materials to enhance the program and will recommend and participate in curriculum revisions with Nursing and Health Sciences faculty.

The Pre-Nursing program is a 10 month program delivered through 3 semesters. The program is designed to provide access to health careers for those who do not meet regular university or program entrance requirements. The purpose of the Pre-Nursing program is to provide a solid academic foundation and prepares successful students to pursue an education in a health field. Graduates of the Pre-Nursing program can apply for entry into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Practical Nursing or other health programs such as Maternity Care Worker certificate or Midwifery Diploma. Presently the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is awarded by the senate of Dalhousie University.

Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree with credits in Math, Chemistry and Biology. Preference will be given to applicants with a science Master’s Degree. The incumbent must have experience working and teaching in a cross-cultural environment and have specific understanding and experience of adult instructional skills. Applicants must have experience teaching in a classroom setting. Knowledge of the Canadian and/or Nunavut health care systems and/or nursing would be an asset. Additional assets include involvement in scholarly activities including research and published work, knowledge of program and/or project development, management, needs assessment and curriculum development. Basic knowledge in counselling and/or life skills coaching is an asset.

Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official language is an asset.

Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.

Current Indeterminate Government of Nunavut employees that apply and are successful on this term position may be offered an transfer assignment for the duration of the term.
