Qulliq Energy Corporation

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) is entrusted to provide safe, reliable power to all customers in Nunavut. Owned by the Government of Nunavut and operated as an arms-length territorial corporation, QEC is the sole provider of electricity and district heating in Nunavut. In comparison to other utilities in Canada, QEC faces unique challenges as it operates 25 stand-alone diesel power generation facilities and distribution systems located in each of the territory’s communities.

QEC 21-036 Meter Technician

Based out of Iqaluit, Nunavut and reporting to the Manager, Protection, Control, and Metering, the Meter Technician is responsible for the installation, testing, and maintenance of single and three-phase revenue meters, metering equipment, and associated infrastructure across the territory. The position is also responsible for coordinating with internal staff and external stakeholders to provide technical guidance and support services as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs electrical and mechanical work in testing, installing, calibrating, and repairing electric watt-hour meters, and other related electrical instruments, across the territory.
  • Installs and inspects new revenue meters to ensure proper working order and conducts electric tests for new and in-service meter accuracy.
  • Maintains accurate records of all revenue meter changes and plans for upcoming revenue meter changes as per Measurement Canada specifications and requirements.
  • Manages revenue metering inventory and associated devices.
  • Assists in the installation of commercial metering, including current transformer, potential transformers, and test blocks.
  • Inspects service entrance equipment for correct applications, proper wiring, grounding, equipment configuration, and compliance with Measurement Canada specifications and requirements.
  • Assist Generation or Distribution staff with construction, maintenance, and/or repair of electric systems.
  • Coordinates with internal and external stakeholders to provide technical support and advice for capital and recoverable projects.

Required Qualifications Include:

  • Interprovincial certification as a Meter Technician, or related discipline.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, or equivalent.
  • Three years of experience installing and maintaining meters, metering equipment, and associated equipment and infrastructure.

Assets:

  • Knowledge of Nunavut, the land, language and culture.
  • The ability to communicate in Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun and/or French.

We offer a competitive salary range of $93,017.60 to $115,294.40 a northern living allowance of $15,016 per annum, a comprehensive benefits package including a defined benefit pension program and subsidized staff housing. This position is included in the Nunavut Employees Union.

Preference will be given to Nunavut Inuit.
