Position Purpose
Provide assistance and support for all Human Resources policies, practices and procedures
Key Accountabilities
The Generalist is responsible for dealing with various HR functions such as disability management, recruitment, performance management.
Responsibilities
  • Provide HR support and advice to management and employees to ensure the fair and equitable application of Human Resources policies and procedures, assist with general inquiries
  • Oversee the recruitment, selection and onboarding process.
  • Lead and conduct pre-screening interviews, schedule interviews, and ensure completion of background checks and employment references, prepare and present job offers
  • Host new hire employee orientations as required, and ensure all online onboarding, paperwork and training is completed. Ensure applicable excel files are updated as necessary.
  • Create and maintain weekly reports, such as bakery turnover and recruitment/staffing
  • Lead the weekly staffing meetings with managers to understand hiring needs in bakery
  • Foster positive employee relations and effectively manage employee relations issues
  • Assist in the implementation and communication/training of all HR policies and procedures
  • Complete exit interviews and provides feedback to HR Manager
  • Manage the disability management and return to work programs for non work related claims. Communicate with insurance representatives, physicians, and other applicable parties. Complete and submit all LTD forms as required.
  • Work with Supervisors/Managers to prepare corrective action letters when necessary
  • Manage the document control process for job descriptions, HR policies and procedures
  • Assist HR Team with coordinating annual social events
  • Participate in various Human Resources initiatives and projects in support of Company goals
  • Support the annual performance management process for all employees
  • Provide backup for benefits and payroll administration
  • Assist with maintaining a healthy and happy work environment
  • Ensure that all employees are aware of their responsibilities specific to food safety, legality and quality
  • Adhere to GMPs and Health and Safety rules as outlined in employee handbook
    • Keep work area clean and clear of hazards
    • Report any unsafe conditions, incidents or injuries to supervisor immediately
    • Use all prescribed personal protective equipment
  • Ensure GMP’s and safe food handling practices are being followed
    • Monitor and enforce GMP compliance by all operators
    • Ensure all work areas are clean and organized and free of spills, water, wood, and debris
    • Complete incident reports for all FM/GMP incidents
    • Follow up with Health, Safety & Security Manager any reports of unusual people or behaviours
  • Primarily in contact with:
    • Human Resources Manager - setting direction -weekly
    • Senior Managers - as required
    • Employees & Supervisors - Contacts - daily/as necessary
    • Government Departments - as needed
    • Prospective Employees – as required
  • Perform all other duties assigned

Skills, Experience & Qualifications
  • 5-7 years’ experience in a Human Resources role, specifically manufacturing environment preferred Knowledge of all applicable legislation
  • Solid analytical competencies, numerical aptitude and attention to detail are critical
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Hands-on, willing attitude
  • Interpersonal skills to maintain positive employee relations
  • Project Management skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Taking initiative to achieve results
  • Dedicated and energetic
  • Strong organizational skills


Education, Technical Qualifications, Experience and Competencies Proficiency Level
Required
  • University degree, preferably B. Comm, or BA, Human Resources Management or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5-7 years HR experience preferably in the manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of ESA, Human Rights Code, OHSA , WSIB Regulations and other related legislation pertaining to workplace Human Resources
Preferred
  • 5-7 years’ experience in a Human Resources role, specifically manufacturing environment preferred
  • Preference will be given to candidates who hold their CHRP/CHRL designation
