This is a regular 1 –year term position working 75 hours bi-weekly. Temporary Assignments are preferred and will be considered.

The Director, EMO is responsible for managing the Emergency Measures Organization (EMO) by coordinating a whole of government approach to emergency management, resulting in emergency resilient Yukon communities. The Director oversees the creation of plans and strategies to enhance Yukon’s emergency preparedness and recovery capacity. This work has profound economic, social, psychological and environmental implications for the Yukon.

The ideal candidate is committed to building positive relationships; is skilled at providing risk-based information to government decision makers, and ensuring effective territorial preparedness and recovery from disasters. They will build effective relationships within YG and externally with municipalities, First Nations, government departments and provincial/federal agencies. They will utilize strong communications and team building skills to professionally and tactfully represent the Yukon government. They will provide subject matter expertise and provide mentorship to internal and/or external stakeholders during the operations of an emergency, emergency training, simulations and exercises. During the course of the assignment, the Emergency Measures Organization may participate in a review of the Civil Emergency Measures Act and will oversee the development of a Yukon Government emergency recovery program.

Essential Qualifications

Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the following qualifications. Please note selection for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.

  • Post-secondary coursework in public or business administration, natural or environmental sciences. Education relating to emergency or risk management would be an asset;
  • Significant experience supervising staff, groups, or committees;
  • Significant experience working in a senior decision-making capacity in either a government or emergency response environment;
  • Experience coordinating diverse groups;
  • Experience developing policies, plans, procedures and guidelines;
  • Significant experience dealing with First Nation Governments, Municipal Governments, Volunteer Groups, and Community Groups.

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate their competence according to the standard set by the Yukon Government Core Competency Framework.
