ADMINISTRATIVE PROGRAM ASSISTANT (BAND LEVEL 4)

Memorial University Botanical Garden and Johnson GEO Centre
(Multiple Contractual Part-time Positions to December 24, 2021)

The University will consider applications from qualified permanent staff who may be interested in a temporary assignment, subject to departmental approval

DUTIES

Under the supervision of the Environmental Educator, the successful applicant will assist in the planning and delivery of interpretation and educational programs for school programs (K-12), post-secondary programs, pre-schools, community organizations, and the general public. Duties include assisting with planning, research, promotion, and delivery of interpretation and curriculum-based education programs for school groups, teacher workshops, gardening and natural history workshops, science based demonstrations, preschool programs, Family Fun Days, special events and general visitor activities and tours; assisting with website editing, and social media promotion; using online registration, email, form software, and MS Office; writing summary reports; and performing other related duties as required. On occasion position also responsible for working at front desk, operating cash register, and greeting visitors. Weekends and some evenings will be required.


QUALIFICATIONS

Some experience (1-3 years) in interpreting nature and science topics to a broad audience including school age (K-12) students in an informal educational environment; graduation from high school, supplemented by university level courses in natural science (botany, zoology, ecology, geology, environmental science) or horticulture and education, or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Extensive supervisory experience is mandatory. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking experience and social media literacy is required. Interest and knowledge of Newfoundland gardening, natural history, botany, geology educational principals, and the outdoors is preferred. Possession of a valid Province of Newfoundland and Labrador driver’s license, and up to date Standard First Aid would be an asset. A Police Records Check with a Vulnerable Sector Query, from the local police authority will be required.

SALARY
$38,481 – 53,965 per annum (CUPE Local 1615)
