NATURE OF WORK
This is varied accounting work ranging from routine to moderately complex application of fundamental accounting principles. The Accounting Clerk 2 records varied financial transactions and maintains routine to moderately complex accounting records. Employees in this class are responsible for preparing and maintaining accounting reports and summaries and assisting in the preparation of statements according to established procedures while working within defined time constraints. Detailed instructions and supervision are received when changes in methods or systems are made.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Not all inclusive or applicable to all assignments
Prepares routine to moderately complex journal entries.
Reconciles and maintains routine to moderately complex accounts and sub ledgers and investigates discrepancies where necessary.
Prepares, balances and maintains routine to moderately complex financial logs, listings, reports and/or working papers.
Checks invoices for accuracy of information and coding.
Reviews, verifies, and processes vendor invoices.
Receives cash, issues receipts, and/or prepares and reconciles bank deposits.
Logs and follows up on customer returned cheques.
Communicates and resolves issues with issuers, collection agents, reinsurers, brokers, vendors, and corporate clients regarding their accounts.
Maintains and prepares monthly and quarterly statements to reinsurers, issuers, brokers, etc.
Prepares commodity tax returns, such as PST returns.
Reviews and verifies accuracy of transactions processed. Determines necessary corrections.
Performs clerical and other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skill
Knowledge of accounting principles and practices and their application to varied departmental requirements.
Skill in the preparation of standard accounting summaries, reconciliations, statements and reports using computer spreadsheet applications (i.e. Excel).
Knowledge of other major areas and the skill to integrate and communicate that information.
Education and Experience
Two year diploma in Accounting OR a minimum of three years post-secondary education in Business Administration or Commerce majoring in Accounting.
Satisfactory job related performance.
