Summary

The selectee for this position serves as an Information Technology Specialist (INFOSEC) in the Nanoose Bay Range Operations, Nanoose Bay, Canada. This position is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing Information Security solutions used in Test and Evaluation of Under Sea Warfare systems.


Responsibilities

  • You will conduct routine inspections of information technology (IT) equipment to ensure compliance with directives and instructions from higher authority.
  • You will identify improvements and upgrades needed for IT systems that will improve US security posture.
  • You will ensure IT and IA systems are in proper working order to ensure their readiness for use in acoustic range test events.
  • You will apply cryptographic program rules to ensure system compliance with regulations.

    • Ability to board ships/submarines during dockside and at-sea testing, involving considerable walking, climbing, and standing for several hours at a time, or crawling into small spaces.
    • Exposure to hazardous electrical voltages and at-sea transfers via small craft, helicopters, or small aircraft.
    • This position is designated as a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce position. You must obtain and maintain the credentials as described in SECNAV M-5239.2 for Technical Support Specialist level Intermediate within 12 months of appointment.
    • Preferred candidates hold a B.A.S in information systems with a current Network+ and Security + certificate and two years experience working on range IT systems and infrastructure. Please annotate your resume appropriately if you hold this degree.

    Qualifications

IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Acts as primary source of information for projects to outside sources and deal with officials at varying levels. 3.Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Team with personnel within and outside the organization to successfully conduct and execute project tasking.4.Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. IT related experience demonstrating this competency include: Analyze and troubleshoot system processes. In addition to my experience demonstrating the four competencies above, I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09/10) or pay band (NT-03) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector 1) Interpreting and adhering to all necessary information security policies and standards to ensure information systems are developed, procured, and installed; 2) Determining inherent risks in system design, existing countermeasures, and plans to improve security, efficiency and productivity of information systems; 3) Evaluating new systems development plans to ensure the all applicable Information Assurance policies are appropriately considered and implemented; 4) Identifying violations of security procedures and recommending corrective actions; and 5) Providing guidance to others on information technology security issues.
