New job GIS Specialist in Quebec

Ducks Unlimited is looking for a geomatics specialist to join its Quebec conservation technology team on a three-year fixed term position.

Responsibilities

• Quantify the percentage of wetland losses over the past 10 years using detailed mapping of wetlands in southern Quebec, based on various subdivisions (watersheds, municipalities, RCMs, regions, habitat types, etc.).
• In collaboration with the territory’s planner, develop a better understanding of the area of freedom of waterways and their contribution to ecological services in economic times with research groups.
• Identify streams with good potential for forest riparian habitat restoration that have a positive impact on biodiversity.
• Explore an approach to selecting drained sites that offer good restoration potential and integrate into the dynamics of human activities.

Education

University training in geomatics, or relevant experience in these fields: geography, geomorphology, forestry.

Requirements

• Good knowledge of wetland ecosystems (classification systems, hydrology, plant species, soil types and ecological functions of these habitats)
• Mastery of geomatics software; ArcMap, AGOL
• Be comfortable manipulating various historical databases
• Ability to work with LIDAR data
• Precision, attention to detail, respect for deadlines and the ability to work independently and as a team
• Have 2 to 5 years of experience in geomatics
• Good communication skills (oral and written)
• Ability to express yourself in public and excellent outreach ability
• Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite
• Teamwork, collaboration, exchange of knowledge
