Our Position

Reporting to the Director of Payer Relations, the Senior Manager, Payer Relations, Private Market is a critical strategic position within AstraZeneca Canada accountable for the development and execution of the private payer strategy, engagement and policy for AstraZeneca’s priority therapeutic areas (Oncology, Respiratory, Cardiovascular-Metabolic) to facilitate rapid and optimized patient access to our life changing medicines through private reimbursement.

  • Lead, develop and execute regional private payer engagement strategies for priority brands aligned with Market Access/Pricing strategies to facilitate optimized private reimbursement

  • In collaboration with Market Access Strategy and Medical, lead the execution of early private payer engagement meetings to discuss clinical and economic value propositions

  • In collaboration with Market Access Strategy, develop and submit Private Payer drug dossier submissions to optimize formulary listing decisions

  • Collaborate in the development of the private payer value brand propositions to drive optimal implementation of reimbursement strategies

  • Through extensive stakeholder engagement (Insurers, PBMs, KEEs, patient groups, etc.) provide ongoing regional/national insights to inform cross-functional reimbursement strategies and policy

  • Strong understanding of the Canadian Private Payer environment, including; formulary designs, drug plan designs, blended public/private reimbursement, current Private Payer and CLHIA policies and National Pharmacare

  • As a key member of the brand teams, provide guidance as the Private Payer SME on field related input into commercial strategies, forecasting and Patient Support Programs

  • Ensure cross-functional collaboration with field colleagues to align respective strategies to support reimbursement objectives

  • Conduct early discussions with Insurers and PBMs to facilitate rapid formulary implementation of PLAs following completion of negotiations

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ degree/Advanced degree in science, economics, social sciences or business

  • 7-10 years of Pharmaceutical experience, with a minimum 5 years market access experience (market access, government affairs, marketing, sales, medical) with a proven track record of success

  • Experience leading projects that involve cross functional collaboration

  • Experience developing and executing payer engagement strategies

  • Oncology experience is an asset

  • Extensive knowledge of the Private Payer processes from drug submission to formulary listing

  • Network of Private Payer contacts and in-depth knowledge of key stakeholder networks is highly desirable
