DNP M&T Mulgrave Site is a multi-plant site in which the following processes and technologies are operated in the production of fish oil:
  • Winterization
  • Steam Deodorization
  • Bleaching
  • Drumming
  • Concentration
  • Ethylation

You’ll be responsible to:
  • Provide guidance and technical support regarding NS & Canadian safety rules and regulation questions.
  • Shows leadership by working to SHE standards and encouraging employees to work to the same standards
  • Maintain statistics on-site safety
  • Conduct Workplace Inspection & Audits SHE programs/processes to ensure compliance with site/company/division and government regulations or standards and/or SOPs.
  • Develop and promote site safety training programs for employees which include forklift training and home safety programs. Conduct safety orientation to new employees. Ensure that all training is current and up to date.
  • Write and update site SHE standard operational Procedure (SOPs)/Job Safety Analysis (JSA) as needed due to changing operational environmental/activities and or corporate requirements.
  • Conducts improvement activities for site safety and industrial hygiene and serves as an expert to the organization.
  • Provide guidance and support which ensures compliance for the safe work permitting (e.g., hot-work, confined space entry, lock-out tag-out hazardous material) process, including writing and issuing permits. Auditing all documents related to the permits.
  • Maintain site-wide chemical inventory data and electronic SDS database. Also, maintain a current list of chemicals used onsite.
  • Ability to lead or participate in incident investigations include root cause failure analysis.

What we look for in you
  • 1-2 years of experience in a related progressively responsible professional and supervisory role in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge of all applicable safety and industrial hygiene regulations and experience in auditing compliance thereto.
  • Practical experience in health, safety, and environmental areas including lockout Tagout tryout work at heights lifting and hoisting, inspections and audits of the safety program, root cause analysis, Hazard and Operability Analysis (HAZOP) studies, health risk assessment, risk reduction training, WHMIS/GHS, industrial hygiene, etc.
  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate safety, health, and environmental processes and requirements, including experience in with Computer-based training systems (Talent Suite), Microsoft Word (i.e. procedure documentation and formatting), Excel (i.e. creating workbooks, writing formulas with functions) and PowerPoint (i.e. creating slides for training and presentations).

  • Post-secondary education in a related field, such as public/occupational health and safety is an asset.
  • High level of conceptual and analytical thinking.
  • Good knowledge of SHE strategies, policies, practices, and regulations.
  • Good communication, social and advisory skills required.
