DSM produces MEG-3 fish oils that meet or exceed worldwide government regulations and guidelines for contaminants, offering safe, high-quality omega-3s EPA and DHA. Our algal oils are produced from start to finish in a controlled environment, and provide a natural, sustainable and vegetarian alternative to fish oil.


As a Reliability Engineer you have a business critical role. Your drive to improve the reliability and integrity of the Mulgrave site with regard to equipment, maintenance procedures and maximizing technical availability of assets will allow us to optimize production and meet client expectations.


The facility in Mulgrave, NS is the world leader in omega3 manufacturing. It is a growing facility in which a variety of products for pharma, food, and the dietary supplements industry is produced, starting from crude fish oil as a raw material.
Like DSM, the site takes its environmental impact very seriously. All of our heat is generated from 100% renewable fuel sources. In addition, all of the byproducts are valorized locally (composting, biogas production) and excess biofuel is sold as a renewable fuel source.

What can you expect in your work?
No day is the same and you will be working in a dynamic work environment. You will be responsible to:
  • Identify potential performance killers and cost drivers by monitoring and analyzing the performance of the plant using statistical methods
  • Define and ensure the availability of critical spare parts, services and contracts for all corrective preventive and predictive maintenance on site
  • Perform Failure Mode and Effective Analysis
  • Define the optimum Preventive Maintenance program related to the business strategy
  • Lead criticality ranking and failure modes and effects analysis on future equipment installations
  • Execute RCA to find causes for reliability problems
  • Monitor adherence to the Improve Plant (IP) process, MOC (management of change) for existing equipment modifications as well and new installations

What we like to see in your experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a mechanical engineering or related engineering field;
  • Must have 5 or more years of reliability experience
  • Experience with maintenance organization including processes and systems, within a manufacturing environment
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) execution, Management of Change (MOC) experience;
  • Working knowledge of statistical methods
  • SAP or similar ERP system experience strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with electrical and instrumentation technology methodologies
  • Project management experience
  • Prior leadership or supervisor experience a plus
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to work well in team setting
