The Ministry is accepting applications for Permanent Part-Time Parental Care Workers in North Battleford Saskatchewan. Parental Care Workers are positive, motivated and energetic role models that are non-judgmental and have excellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills. Parental Care Workers are leaders that embrace diversity and equality.

Role of a Parental Care Worker

  • Works closely with youth who may have special needs, gender differences and various cultural and spiritual belief systems;
  • Establishes, builds and maintains work relationships with effective interpersonal communication (both written and verbal);
  • Works independently and as a member of a team;
  • Maintains safety, security, management and control of youth and transport youth;
  • Maintains a level of fitness to meet the requirements of a physically demanding work environment; and
  • Works proficiently with various computer systems and electronic software.

Ideal Candidate

Becoming a Parental Care Worker requires a combination of knowledge, skills and attributes which includes:

  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system;
  • Knowledge of human growth and adolescent development and the impact of influencing factors;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • A collaborative and supportive team player;
  • Proficiency with various computer systems or programs;
  • A commitment to ongoing learning and continuous improvement;
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license, and First Aid CPR/AED; and
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada at the time you apply for a position.

Physical Requirements

The Corrections Officers Physical Abilities Test (COPAT) is a timed physical abilities test that is comprised of activities designed to reflect the physical challenges faced in a corrections environment.

The COPAT is mandatory and must be successfully completed during the assessment period. Due to COVID-19 the only available testing dates for this posting will be in Regina/Saskatoon TBA.

If you have successfully completed the COPAT or similar physical abilities tests within six months of applications, you may not need to complete the Saskatchewan COPAT. Contact a recruitment officer at [email protected] for a determination of equivalency.

Evaluations and Assessments

Candidates who successfully complete the screening process will be placed in a qualified pool for the facility (or facilities) they expressed interest in. As opportunities become available, candidates will be drawn from the pool, provided an offer of employment and invited to attend the Induction Training Program.
