POSITION SUMMARY

Employees of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia (Assembly) provide professional non-partisan services to support the democratic institution of Parliament and its members through procedural advice, administrative support and information services. The Assembly is an autonomous employer, separate from the administrative framework of B.C. government ministries and agencies.

The Sergeant-at-Arms department is seeking a collaborative, detail oriented, and flexible individual for the auxiliary As-and-When Required position of Gallery Supervisor.

Reporting to the Operations Commander, the Gallery Supervisor is responsible for the security and control of access to the Public, Members’ and Speakers’ Galleries and supervises the conduct of gallery visitors while the House is sitting. The Gallery Supervisor supervises up to ten sessional staff and is required to be alert for suspicious activities within the galleries, to check for authorized security passes when appropriate and to use tact and judgment, to take action to resolve any suspicious activity. This may include contacting the Protective Services office to request instructions and assistance if necessary. The Gallery Supervisor regularly communicates and coordinates work tasks with the Chamber Supervisor, Corridor Supervisor, Procurement Officer and Executive/Administrative Assistants to ensure collaboration in monitoring and responding to access issues.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must have a completed grade 12 education and a minimum of one year of administrative experience and a minimum of one year of experience in a team lead/supervisory function.
