The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) is the nation-wide leader and champion for mental health. CMHA facilitates access to the resources people require to maintain and improve mental health and community integration, build resilience, and support recovery from mental illness.

The Director of Programs and Policies is responsible for providing program leadership, direction, and management oversight to the development, administration, and delivery of CMHA PEI programs and services. In addition, this position will provide policy development support and maintain a strong network of provincial partners to inform and enhance CMHA operations.

While the Director of Programs and Policies typically works out of the Division office in Charlottetown, they service the entire organization. This involves travel as well as working some evenings and occasional weekends.

The Director of Programs and Policies is a member of the CMHA Senior Management Team. This position provides direct oversight to the Provincial Peer Support Coordinator, and the staff within the Individual & Family Support Department. This position reports to the Executive Director.

  • Charlottetown (Starting as soon as possible; Full-time 1-year maternity leave contract)

KEY JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Providing strategic leadership to program areas within CMHA PEI
  • Provide direct oversight and management of the Individual and Family Support Department and the Peer Support Department
  • Developing policies, procedures, and practices to support evidence-based programming and decisions across the organization
  • Overseeing the implementation of new provincial initiatives related to community outreach and mental health promotion
  • Supporting the on-going evaluation of existing programs within CMHA PEI
  • Liaising with stakeholders across the province, including government departments, funders, and the CMHA Board of Directors

REQUIREMENTS

Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a senior role or position, providing management consultation and mentoring support to program managers and staff
  • Experience in program development, implementation, strategic planning and project management
  • Experience in developing collaborative partnerships with diverse stakeholders such as community based organizations, non-profits, client service agencies, government departments, funders, and community advocates
  • Experience developing program policies, procedures, and practices
  • Experience writing proposals, applications, and reports
  • Experience with research using both white and grey sources, including literature reviews, environmental scans, and evaluations

Qualifications

  • Relevant Masters' degree in a Human Services / Health Sciences field or a relevant Bachelor degree with extensive professional experience
  • Training specific to mental health such as ASIST, Mental Health First Aid, Mental Health Works, Changing Minds, etc.
  • Acceptable Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Lived experience with mental illness is an asset
  • Non-violent crisis intervention, CPR & First Aid are an asset

  • Understanding and appreciation for evidence-informed and evidence-based programming
  • Sound knowledge of the social determinants of health and other factors impacting mental health individually and collectively
  • Awareness of relevant CMHA program models related to housing, peer support, Clubhouse, and the Recovery College
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of pertinent community services and supports
  • Sound knowledge of occupational health and safety policies and legislation

  • Flexibility to travel within the region on a regular basis and within the province when required
  • Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle required
