QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

Bachelor of Education or equivalent with specialization in elementary/intermediate education;

Recent teaching experience at the grade 4-6 range;

Experience in assessment for learning and differentiating instruction;

Experience with balanced literacy included modeled, shared, guided and independent reading and writing practices and vocabulary strategies and methodologies;

Experience incorporating outdoor educational experiences and field trips into the curricular studies;

Recent experience working with First Nation students and families in an educational setting/environment would be an asset;

Experience providing interactive learning experiences through the use of technology (such as: Epson Bright Links, Promethean Board and an iPad) would be an asset;

Experience and/or knowledge of Special Education, self regulation, restorative practices and trauma-informed care would be an asset.

Strong classroom management and organizational skills;

Ability to create and manage a classroom environment that is inviting, safe, inclusive, and supportive;

An appreciation and understanding of the unique needs of intermediate aged students;

Willingness to support the philosophy, values, and beliefs of the school;

Ability to deliver appropriate Individual Education Plans;

Ability to deliver curriculum through outdoor experiential activities;

Ability to work as a member of a team and willingness to participate in the total school program;

Strong communication and interpersonal skills and proven ability to establish and maintain a harmonious relationship with students, parents, administration, other staff members, consultants and the wider community;

Strong understanding of Yukon First Nation ways of knowing and traditional cultural values;

Ability to work collaboratively with Yukon First Nation governments, Community Education Liaison Coordinator, council officials and families;

A knowledge and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of the First Nations people of the Yukon, and a culturally diverse student population;

Willingness to live, work and participate as a member of a small rural community.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
To be a Teacher in Yukon, you must hold a Teacher Certification in another Canadian province/territory first;

Successful applicants will be required to undergo a Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check.
