Definition of work: This is a highly professional nursing position responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, evaluation, and follow-up of clients in Rural Primary Care Clinics, Long Term Care, Rural Emergency Departments, as well as, the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre and the James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre (Fast Track Stream of Care)The Nurse Practitioner will work in consultation and collaboration with the Emergency Room Physicians/Chief of Emergency Medicine and physician colleagues at Rural Health Centres.
The successful applicant works independently in diagnosing conditions, prescribing medications, performing or ordering diagnostic tests and treatments, evaluating treatments and providing follow-up care in liaison with the primary care physician. The Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive and holistic nursing care to clients including health promotion, injury and illness treatment and prevention, supportive, curative and rehabilitative care.
As an advanced practitioner, this position functions in the roles of practitioner, educator and leader. As governed by provincial regulations, the successful candidate will practice independently, collaborating with the primary care physicians in the area for issues outside the nurse practitioner scope of practice. The Nurse Practitioner reports to the Director of Primary Health Care and Community Nursing. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.

Required qualifications:
- Graduation from a nurse practitioner program approved by Central Health.
- Current registration as a nurse practitioner with the Association of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador.
- Current BLS certification for health care providers from the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
- Must have completed or be willing to complete next available course of ACLS, PALS, TNCC and NRP
- Demonstrated knowledge of home and community health services.
- Demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities and problem-solving skills, as well as, oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work well independently and in an interdisciplinary team environment.
- Consistent demonstration of Central Health's corporate values; Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Stewardship and Quality.
- A valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5 Driver's License and the use of a private vehicle are conditions of employment.
- A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
- A satisfactory certificate of conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
