Role

This position provides services in line with the Alberta Plan for Parks and Kananaskis Region Management Plans and Operational Directives, and works within the scope and resources of the Kananaskis Public Engagement Section.

Information Officers provide strong customer service to visitors and campers. They provide clean, clear communications for local wayfinding and travel information. Successful candidates possess strong computer skills to operate point of sale and camping reservation systems and update local signage around the park.

Information Officers duties include, but are not limited to, the day-to-day operations of facilities that, depending on park, may include Visitor Centre, Booth and/or Camp Store. Daily tasks include opening and closing procedures, till close-outs and reception duties. Information Officers provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for all visitors in-person, over the phone or online. Successful candidates have strong time management skills, attention to detail and work well under pressure. Ideal candidates also possess strong conflict resolution skills to manage customer complaints and facilitate feedback. Information Officers support light cleaning and sanitization of high-touch areas. They also promote and sell tickets for programs and events as well as manage equipment and/or facility rentals.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma and one year of related experience. Related experience includes communications, outdoor education experience, resource management, customer service or conservation experience.

Equivalencies will be considered.


Assets:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, social media, photography and graphics, and map design
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with experience in public speaking
  • Knowledge in landscapes, ecology, experiences, and public use of parks in the Kananaskis region

Salary

$21.41 to $26.05 per hour ($1,551.94 to $1,888.54 biweekly)

Notes

Wage employees receive 11.2% in addition to regular wage earnings in lieu of benefits and vacation leave.

  • 5.2 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays.
  • 6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay.
