Our Capital Projects Group, GO Extensions Office is seeking a Project Coordinator to work on various projects within the GO Extensions to coordinate the design and construction of assigned physical infrastructure projects, in a safe, timely, consistent and cost-effective manner.

What will I be doing?

  • Managing the implementation and monitoring of projects through all stages of design and construction in terms of function, quality, budget schedule and approvals in co-ordination with external and internal authorities.
  • Monitoring and controlling the quality of design and construction services and to coordinate construction administration contracts as well as construction contractors for physical infrastructure project delivery.
  • Participate in the development of estimates for project engineering, construction and contingency costs, and project schedules.
  • Managing the implementation and monitoring of approved projects through all stages of design and construction.
  • Administer consultant assignments and contracts for rail infrastructure design and construction.
  • Work effectively with Metrolinx internal and external Stakeholders including CN and CP to meet Stakeholder requirements.
  • Research and participate in the development of industry construction and design standards, procedures, and best practices to ensure continuous improved services, physical infrastructure and safety.
  • Manage and oversee engineering consultant services for preliminary design, detail design, tender process and execution of infrastructure projects for new construction and upgrades to Railway infrastructure and to ensure compliance with GO Transit standards and policies, Regulated Railway Standards, Transport Canada regulations and guidelines, AREMA practices, the Railway Safety Act and internal and external stakeholder requirements.
  • Perform formal compliance audits, conducting efficiency tests, and reviewing Consultant and Contractor records to ensure compliance with established standards and established best practice guidelines on the maintenance of Railway assets.
  • Review and ensure accuracy of financial information necessary for timely and accurate payment of consultant and contractor invoices
  • Ensure Environmental compliance and identify property requirements, utility relocations and conflict s and other third-party requirements
  • Prepare regular reports and input information to various systems for financial reporting and risk management.
  • Ensure proper acceptance and commissioning of completed projects for hand over to the user group.
  • Prepare performance evaluations for consultants and contractors and prepares project post-evaluation reports including project cost analyses.

What skills and qualifications do I need?

  • Must have a college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a related field and an equivalent combination of education, training and experience providing a thorough knowledge of the theories, principles and practices of civil engineering and architecture.
  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience related to the planning, design and construction of transit facilities and railways; interpreting and applying contract plans and specifications; and coordinating contracted engineering projects
  • Must have a valid Ontario “G” licence that meet the corporate standard for a good driving record
  • Must have detailed knowledge of project management including cost control, scheduling, codes, standards, specifications, applicable contract legislation, and corporate policies and procedures.
  • Proficiency in the use of project management software and computer applications is essential.
  • Must have a good understanding of Railway Operating Rules, Regulations, and Safety & Operating procedures.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to work independently, strong interpersonal and negotiating skills and analytical ability are required.
  • Must successfully complete environmental safety, OHS and any other training required by company policy.
